Brand Tiers

There seems to be hundreds of watch companies these days. Besides the newer boutique brands that seem to be popping up all the time despite the recession, this is a list of most of the brands you’re likely to run into. If you don’t agree, please feel free to comment and explain why.

A large factor that goes into the rankings is the range of watches that are produced because it’s a large contributor to brand prestige. IE. Orient might have some in house movements but they also generally only sell mostly low price lower end watches.

Quite a few crucial brands have been left out there, such as Hamilton, Tissot, Blancpain and quite a few others. As for Seiko and Citizen being in Tier 5, well, your credibility runs out at that point. Grand Seiko Hi Beat movements are equal to Zenith’s El Primero. In fact, Seiko have an equivalent for all but the most rarified Swiss brands. How do you rate a Credor Eichi II beside a JLC Reverso? You also forgot about Orient Star. Citizen might only make two mechanical movements but when it comes to quartz, they are as good as any other company on Earth.
I know “Tieri-ng” is a never-ending task but this list falls very short indeed.
